is a fiber and installation artist based in Charlotte, NC. She developed a love of making at age 6 when she started making tiny clothing for her stuffed animals and she hasn't stopped creating since. Now she makes hand sewn wall hangings and wearable art in the form of necklaces and pins. In addition, Amy creates bespoke art installations grounded in the use of intricate, handmade components to create a large scale display.
Amy sews wall hangings that are created by methodically layering and sewing together strips of fabric to build out an organic form. These soft sculptures are inspired by the cross section of large trees. Within the rings of a tree, each year of its life is recorded - showing years of growth and years that were challenging. In the rings of these sculptures, hours of work are carefully transcribed creating a record of the hours of work that goes into each piece.
In addition to fiber work, Amy creates large scale, site-specific installations. This has included outdoor installations, retail displays, and more. Click the link below to see a selection of this work.
During the summer, Amy completed one sketch every day for 100 days. The only prompt for this was to fill the circle on the paper that was exactly the size of an almond milk yogurt cup. 100 days and 100 circles later, the daily sketches range from fruit studies and abstract patterns, to floral designs and embroidery on paper.
