Below is a collection of hand-sewn wall hangings. The handwork and individual stitching of each piece is intentionally visible. This record of labor invites the viewer to see and understand the process that led to the creation of each piece. Each stitch records the moments spent working on each piece, drawing inspiration from the way the interior of a tree reflects its own change and growth over time.
These wall hangings show a push and pull of two different mediums that meld together to create one cohesive piece. The coils of fabric and prominent stitching are both integral to the work. The stitches bind the piece together. They punctate the work with color and line in a way that moves the eye through the piece. The coils of fabric provide structure and build out the organic shape of each wall hanging.
